Botanical Name:
Gleditsia triacanthos var inermis 'Shademaster'
Common Name:
Honey Locust - Shademaster
Description:
Dark green foliage in Spring and Summer turning golden yellow in Autumn the Shademaster is a large fast-growing and thornless Gleditisia. (inermis means ‘toothless’). It has an upright branch structure but with a soft, droopy and graceful overall appearance and small white flowers in Spring. The largest of the Gleditsia varieties the Shademaster also has a denser canopy. Gleditsia are hardy, deciduous trees with fine leaves that sit perfectly positioned like bones along a spine. This leaf structure provides dappled shade and makes Gleditsia well suited as a specimen tree as it provides enough light for healthy lawn beneath. Requires full sun and well-drained soil.
