Botanical Name:
Araucaria bidwillii
Common Name:
Bunya Pine
Description:
An ancient tree species native to Australia. Very hardy, tolerant of heat, frost and drought. Pollen cones are male and on the lower branches. Seed cones are female and on the higher branches and can weigh up to 10kg but won't produce until at least 10 years old. Spikey fronds or branchlets are sharp so this is a tree to plant where there is plenty of space to allow it room to shine.
